Eye Therapy Treatment You Can Do At Home
HOT COMPRESSES, LID SCRUBS, & MASSAGE
- WASH: Wash face, eyebrows, and eyelids and scrub along the eyelashes to remove any debris with facecloth.
- HEAT: Microwave Hot Compress 10-20 seconds. Caution: NOT TOO HOT! It’s better to REHEAT 2-3X, and place over eyes for each time for a total of 10 , 20, or 30 minutes.
- MASSAGE: Using the pad of your finger along the eyelash line of the lid put pressure RIGHT ALONG the LID MARGIN, lifting the finger each time. Start at the nose to the outer lid.

The UPPER lid must be in a half closed position; the LOWER lid, use open eyes. - NONPRESERVED ARTIFICAL TEARS: Instill 1 drop 3-6x/day (breakfast, lunch, afternoon, supper, night).
–> Did you know that the preservatives in most eye drops actually promote more irritation… That’s why we ONLY carry therapeutic non preserved artificial tears.
(**Note: DON’T use tears within 15-30 minutes before or after glaucoma, or other prescription eye drops**). - WIPES or FOAM: Wipe towelette across the UPPER & LOWER LIDS, and across the nose and cheeks, as necessary OR if using the foam, use a SMALL pump full into your hand. Massage the foam until creamy then gently wipe onto upper and lower lids. Be careful NOT to get any into the eye since tea tree oil stings! LET AIR DRY. Use this ONCE or TWICE per day, after your massage and artificial tear instillation.
- OINTMENT at bedtime, instil 1/2 inch ribbon inside your lower eyelid, just before you close your eyes since it will make your vision blurry.
- Upon waking, do the whole routine again starting at steps # 1- 5.
- If you have severe symptoms, ask about the new diagnostic tests performed in our dry eye assessment. It helps us diagnosis, and therefore treat more severe types of ocular surface disease! To see details about our Ocular Surface Disease (Dry Eye) Specialty Clinic click HERE.
- NOTE: IN-OFFICE TREATMENTS services are NON OHIP INSURED. Your Private Health Insurance Benefits may cover some, or all, of these services.
